PR- TAX residence status

For a SMC professional, the 1st 2 under "Commitment to New Zealand criteria" are the most likely ways to gain PR.

I've this little question about option 2 as it gives me added flexibility, just in case, in terms of lesser no. of stay days to go for a PR and maybe continue to stay on for long later in my NZ life.

But how easy is it to gain tax residence status itself? I see that India and NZ have double tax treaty or something of that sort, I'm just throwing this as I'm technically challenged beyond a point, but I want to know how easy it is to exercise option 2 towards PR?

Use a search engine and look up "NZ IRD tax residence", where you will find what the tax authorities say about this status.
