Default Do I have to return our old My Sky box to Sky TV?

We have bought the first My Sky Box from Sky TV for $ 599 approx 9 years ago. We want to cancel Sky contract but we were told that we have to return the My Sky box. I can't see why and why should they claim that the box is still Sky TV property when we bought it outright and it is the old My Sky box so what use is it to Sky TV anyhow? I would appreciate any thoughts! Thanks!

With Sky in the UK, when we were cancelling my mother's Sky contract because she didn't use those channels any more, they said the same thing. I said they could have the box back if they contacted me to arrange when they would send someone to collect it, and they never did. I ended up disposing of it in the recycling after she died.

I had to keep paying my sky subs (reduced rate) for 6 months after I had moved out of my rental as the sky box went into storage by mistake. Took me a while to get it out...

Anyway I had many discussions with Sky and they were not willing to budge.

Strange enough, Sky asked us to keep the box in UK and I ended up giving it to one of my ex-colleague as it was of no use for us (as we were moving to NZ). Recently we had a Sky technician who fixed our connection at new rental property and he generously gave us extra remote

Try calling Sky again and see if any helpful person replies back. From recent experience, they do sometimes have nicer ones picking up the call. Recently, our apartment dish had a problem and the Sky customer service person called us few times to follow up as he didn't want us to pay for the Sky Technical service person for no reason (in case the problem wasn't with the main sky connection)

Thank you, obviously you have been really lucky! Yes I might try to call them again and hope that whoever answers the phone is in good mood!

Sky are vile. Wish I could offer something useful to say.

We're with Igloo to avoid this sort of experience: less expensive hardware ($99) and only $20/month, no contract. Gives us 13 channels in addition to what Freeview offers...mostly we have it for BBC World News and UKTV. Combined with a geoblocking service that allows us to access all sorts of on-demand content from around the world ($60 for the first year), we're saving hundreds over our cable/satellite/iptv bills.
