The Medical Assessors (MAs) are a totally different department from INZ COs. Once a medical is referred, the CO can't make a decision on the case till the MA returns their answer, acceptable standard of health (ASH) or not. The MA has the power to require extra doctor's or specialist's reports, or medical tests, as many as they feel they need in order to get a clear idea of the applicant's physical state. There is no fixed time for getting their decision, since every case is different, and may just get, 'Yes, this is all right,' or a succession of, 'Get a doctor's letter,' then they do, 'Now, get xyz tested,' then they do that as well, then, 'Now get a consultant's opinion of abc,' and so on, till the MAs are satisfied one way or the other.

If something is passed through from the CO to the MA, there is going to be around three weeks minimum before any reply comes back, whether the reply is 'okay' or to ask for some other test or report. Do you know when your medical got sent on to the MA?
