Default Filing Expression of Interest - Bit Confused with steps

    Hi,

I want to apply for immigration to New Zealand. my studies shows that first step is to file Expression of Interest (EOI). I opened an online EOI application and see there's lot other things I need to have. at the moment, I am looking at three sections. I want to double check before I do something wrong:

    - English Language Ability
I have IELTS score of 7.5 overall. When I enter that, and I give my IELTS app number. I Still get 0 points? are the points get highlighted only at the end or am I doing something wrong?

    - Skilled Employment
I am Software Developer. I can't see my occupation under this category http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...gistration.htm. So I assume I don't need to apply for any occupational registration? MA I right?

    - Recognized Qualifications
I have masters in computer applications. My university is not under the list where I don't need registration. I think I need a Pre Assessment Result from NZQA. Is that the right place? will I need something in future from them again or PAR is good enough?

    Thanks

You don't get any points for English language ability, proved by your IELTS. Being able to use English is regarded as a basic requisite of living and working in NZ, so it is a gateway requirement - being able to show that you can use English allows you to apply for residence (and if you couldn't, you couldn't apply).

No, there is no body with which you need to register.

Either your qualifications must be on the INZ list of qualifications exempt from assessment http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/35171.htm, or they need to be assessed by NZQA http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualificatio...ns-assessment/, before you put in your EOI. The EOI requires you to fill in those details. Incidentally, it's a waste of money getting PAR. PAR levels are stated only on the basis of what the title of the qualification is, whereas for IQA, there is an investigation of what subject-matter has been studied, to what depth. After this, the IQA states which (if any) NZ course the qualification submitted can be considered equivalent to, and its Level, and it's mandatory for the Invitation To Apply, the next phase of applying under SMC. Use the form at Appendix B here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rd...ifications.pdf to ask NZQA to look specifically for equivalence to the qualifications you need for bonus points for your job, as seen here under List of Skilled Occupations (click on green bar). http://skillshortages.immigration.go...per-programmer

    Hi JandM,

    Thanks for the reply.

So the next thing I should do is to get a IQA from NZQA. I don't understand what you mean by qualifications for bonus point. I studies Computers, and I work in Computers, isn't that good enough for bonus points?

    Thanks

In order to apply for residence, you have to put in an Expression Of Interest (EOI), and in order to get it selected, you need to have at least 140 points if you don't have a job or job offer in NZ, or at least 100 points if you do. See here on the INZ website. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...nt/default.htm The points checker they give a link to is not always reliable, and can be rather misleading, so I recommend looking here. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/6954.htm SM6 has a chart with all possible points, and tells you which other sections to look at for the precise requirements to be able to claim those points.

Thanks JandM. I went through these links, and seems like I can score 140+. I will start with IQA and will give u an update.

    Thanks
