    Default auckland

hi, husband has a job offer in union street, auckland; so looking for the right fit neighbourhood for us. On paper Beach Haven sounds great, anyone got any input on beach haven? Like what sort of commute times are we looking at? Is it a good young family place? We have a toddler. Any drawbacks?

We looked at Beach Haven when we moved to Auckland and for us it was too remote and difficult to get to and from - not so much the commute for work (which seems to be long wherever you live!) but for other activities for my kids. Hopefully someone with more experience on living in Beach Haven will chime in soon!

Coastal Beach Haven is nice and there really is a community there that evolved over the years due mainly because it is quite isolated. There are a couple of dodgy parts of the suburb, and it is quite a drive to get there. About 10 mins from Birkdale and further if you are using the main highway.

We rented in Birkenhead for a couple of years and loved it but we could not afford to buy there and looked a bit further afield. We were looking at Beach Haven and Birkdale and opted for Birkdale as it was a bit closer and there weren't as many hoons on the road.
It is just over 30 minutes on the bus to Victoria Park which is probably the closest stop to Union Street for most Birkenhead buses. The route loops round Beach Haven from Birkdale and is about another 5-15 minutes depending where on the loop you live.
Our kids are all grown up so can't comment on stuff for children but it is a fair distance from a supermarket and other amenities.
