You will be eligible to pay fees as a domestic student. You won't, however, be entitled to a NZ government student load until you've been a resident for three years. http://www.studylink.govt.nz/about-s...uirements.html

    Hi there,

You will need to apply for Visitor/tourist visa if you want to visit your brother in Australia.

    Thanks

Sorry to revive an old thread the origional post is form 2015 so allot could have changed since then, but can someone please advise if this is still applicable? My wife would like to study, but hell or high water, the fees we have to pay are about 6 times more.
So do we qualify as domestic fees once we have Residence Visa? or do we have to wait the full two years and get Permanent Residence before we qualify for it?

From this link is looks like I need Permanent Residence, and that a residence visa wont be good enough?

Unless you are dealing with a privately-owned institution (who have decided to make their own rules), a resident is counted as a domestic student. (But there is a restriction meaning that you can't qualify for a NZ government student grant until after you have been a resident for three years.) See here. https://www.education.govt.nz/minist...estic-student/ This is from the NZ Ministry of Education, so you can see it's correct.
    Definition for tertiary

Section 159 of the Education Act 1989 defines a domestic student as:

    A New Zealand citizen
The holder of a residence class visa granted under the Immigration Act 2009
A person of a class or description of persons required by the Minister, by notice in the Gazette, to be treated as if they are not international students.
    (my bolding)

Before November 2010, successful outcome of an application under SMC was called PR, and what we now call PR was PR with an Indefinite Returning Resident's Visa (IRRV). It quite often happens that institutions' websites and/or printed information have not been updated since before INZ changed the names of visas. This may the cause of confusion in the case of the college in your link.

Id still calify directly with the Open Polytech. You may find that they have their own rules.
