Lightbulb Question for owning a family home for PRV

    Hello there,

It's so great to find this forum. I have a question about my future application for permanent resident visa (PRV).

I've got the resident visa with my family through skill migrant category. We'd like to apply for the PRV under criteria of owning and maintaining a family home (i.e. Established base in New Zealand). But we have to leave NZ after spending enough time as required for this criteria, and very possibly will apply PRV overseas (of course within 3 months on the expiry of travel condition).

My questions are - 1) can we rent out our house while we are away (in view of the fact that we'd already lived in this house for the enough time required)? 2) do we need to go back to live in the house when we apply (i.e. can we apply overseas)?

Can JandM or any one else kindly give comment on this?

    Thanks in advance!

    Cathy

See RV2.5.20 here. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/30505.htm Paragraph b ii requires that the applicant's immediate family be the occupiers of the family home, not anyone else.

And yes, you can apply from overseas. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...teps/apply.htm
