If this comes to the knowledge of INZ, even years ahead, YES, it can affect what happens. You are breaking the terms of your visa at the moment. You could be prosecuted, or *just* deported from NZ. The very fact of that happening puts you on the list of people not eligible for another visa http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/35057.htm, and other countries have similar regulations.
