Default What category of visa should we apply for our children?

    Hi,

My husband is in New Zealand for his Master's on a Student Visa. I have applied for a work visa and have been granted one. I have since then joined my husband in New Zealand. We are planning to bring our children over in January when the school year starts. They are of school going age.
What visa category would the children fall under? Visitor or Student?
If Visitor, can they attend school in New Zealand?
If Student, will they be able to apply to regular schools here? Will they be counted as international students?
    Please advice.

As they're of school age, you need to apply for a student visa for each of them. You fill out the form as if you were the child, then sign on their behalf as the parent. If you send a covering letter linking these applications to your husband's student visa, they will get visas with the same expiry date as his. With the student visas, they will be able to attend ordinary schools, not as international students.
