Job offer on student visa- want to apply residence

Hi I am here in New Zealand studying for Phd. In the student visa I have, I can work for any company and any employer.

I have got a job offer for a full-time permanent position. I am sure that I can work while on this visa however I want to apply for residence.

I have two questions.
- Do I have to change my student visa to work visa to work?
- Can I use the job offer to apply for residence or work to residence while still under the student visa?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Seems this thread has some info for you.

I don't know about other options, but it is always good to work on Work Visa if you have full time permanent position.

For residence, if you have your job on absolute skill shortage list or long term skills shortage list, you can apply. If you have an offer, you need just 100 points.
of course, please do an initial check in points indicator and for details go through opsmanual for your uni and year of pass out to claim the points.
