    Default Timber to build furniture

    Hi there.

We would like to build some furniture. Real simple stuff and we would need smoothed out pine planks, so nothing fancy really. So far we just found horribly expensive planks at places like Mitre10 or Bunnings. Where could we find affordable planks, preferably in the Dunedin area?
Thanks for your advice in advance.
    Have a great day.
    Christine.

In Christchurch there are a number of joinery and furniture shops that dump their offcuts in a bin at the roadside for anyone to take. If there's no place like that in Dunedin, you could still approach similar businesses about taking their scraps off their hands.

Of course, whether that suits you depends on what you want to build, and the tools you have available. Getting demolition timber from a construction site is also an option, but that may not work for you if you don't have the tools to dress and shape it.

Take a look on Trademe, sometimes suitable wood is offered for sale.
