    Default Visiting for initial entry

    Hi all

We are planning to travel Auckland with new born , and unable to decide whether to buy a car seat with stroller or not because we are planning to visit for approximately 7- 10 days.

Is there anything else to do during the first entry , what I have checked on several websites is that maximum we can do is apply ird number and open bank account. Please confirm if any other important registration regarding medicals or any thing else has to be done.

    Thanks in advance

You should know that there are NZ laws about using proper car restraints when transporting children. https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/f...ns-to-the-law/ Notice that they say taxi companies can often provide restraints if given due notice in advance. Also, there are lots of mentions here https://www.google.co.uk/#q=new+zeal...at+for+newborn about hiring a NZ-legal car seat.

I can't think of anything else that you MUST do on your first visit.

I second that. We travelled with 2 kids (aged 2-3) and got a car seat from the rental car company during our stay in NZ. most of the time kids were not comfortable sitting in the car seat as they are not used to it. But still the rental company insisted us to install the seats. We were lucky that we were not pulled over for checking

These are the threads https://www.google.co.uk/#q=new+zeal...at+for+newborn that will give you that information. Don't worry about your child - the 'seats' are specially designed for each age-group to make sure they stay safe.

We booked our car with Hertz as I had corp discounts with them. Just ensure to ask for infant seat not child or baby seat which is for older kids than yours. Take it from me that it is much easier to handle a 2 month old infant than a 2 year old as they mostly eat/poo/sleep We had our hands full in managing our little one as she sat in her mom's lap almost 90% of the time.

Children very quickly get used to being in their seats and straps. They HAVE to, in NZ. The police will promptly stop a car if they notice any child/children travelling unrestrained (and that includes being on an adult's lap), and the driver will get fined. 'S/He doesn't like the seat,' is not any excuse.

This https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sssIsceKd6U is the reason for the rules. Warning - they're only dummies, but it's quite a shock.
