Default Need a job to get a visa and a visa to get a job - catch 22

It appears that one needs a job offer to get an (SMC) visa (see related threads), but employers appear to want a visa before they offer a job. Catch 22.

I don't know what the fastest a UK citizen can get an SMC visa, but it sounds like the process can take months if not years. It's not surprising that employers are unwilling to make a job offer until the visa is sorted, but without a job offer it's harder (impossible?) to get a visa (or put in a good enough EOI).

How does one escape from this vicious circle?

See my replies on your other threads.

But if you get a job offer in NZ, which many people have done by making a recce trip and being available face to face, then you can put in for a temporary work visa (usually either WTR, if the employer is accredited, or Essential Skills), which can be processed relatively quickly, so you can be in NZ working in a couple of months, while your SMC application (which will use a lot of the same evidence) can be taking its time in the background.
