Post Struggling with ANZSCO Job Description - Enviro Scientist

    Hi all,

I hope someone will be able to give me some advice. I am currently completing the EOI form as a result of a skilled job offer. The issue being I am struggling to match my job offer description with a substantial amount of the 'tasks include' on the ANZSCO 'Environmental Scientists' (http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@....tal+Scientists). My job offer title is Environmental Scientist, and I know that the job title is irrelevant, but the job description must closely match the ANZSCO description. However, I work in contaminated land remediation, which means I do site investigations, take water and soil samples and analyse these results for quality indicators, write reports detailing my findings, and give advice about remediation efforts that can be conducted by clients/decision makers. As a result, I can only match 3/9 points, and 6/9 if I'm really thinking outside the box. In regards to qualifications, I have completed an IQA and have a BSc at Level 7 specialising in Environmental Science, so the qualification is a match, but the ANZSCO job description is a worry.

I have looked high and low for an alternative ANZSCO job description that better matches my job offer, but I'm not having any luck. I'm fairly sure my job would be regarded as skilled employment, as I needed a Bachelor's Degree to work in this field, and I also have 3 years of relevant work experience in the UK before moving to NZ, the issue I am having is the ANZSCO 'tasks include' bullet points matching my current job offer.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Also looking here. http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@....tal+Scientists

The 'Tasks include' list at the top of the page summarizes the kind of task that may be required of ANY of the jobs mentioned under this general heading. Nobody from one of the jobs that comes under that general umbrella can be asked to do all of those, but will need to show that they're doing the particular tasks mentioned under the sub-heading for their specialist job, e.g. Park Ranger etc..

If none of the sub-headings is a good fit for you, you could use 234399 ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTISTS NEC (not elsewhere classified), which means you can give your own list, showing as many as possible of the tasks in the Tasks include list, plus any other duties which occur in your own job description.

    Ok, thank you JandM.

So, for example, I'm wanting to use the 234313 ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH SCIENTIST, and my job offer description and duties does match the sub-heading 'Studies and develops policies and plans for the control of factors which may produce pollution, imbalance in or degradation of the environment.', but I'm unable to match a substantial amount of the 'tasks include' at the top of the Unit Group.

When defining skilled employment, INZ state that "...offer of employment or current employment substantially matches the description for that occupation (including core tasks) as set out in the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO)...". So, which are the core tasks? Are these the 'tasks include' bullet points? Or the occupation sub-heading? And if the 'tasks include' bullet points are the core tasks that I need to substantially match, I'm assuming I would need a majority? But as you said, how can one person do all those jobs under that general umbrella?!

Thank you very much for your help.
