Resident Visa expiring soon while I'm oust of NZ

Hello. I got my ‘Resident visa’ stamped on 30 April 2014 When I was in New Zealand. This visa has travel conditions and has expiry of 30 April 2016. After I got resident visa, I was in New Zealand till 12 February 2015. Right now I’m out of NZ and planning to move back to NZ.

So, if I plan to return to NZ after 30 April 2016,

1. Do I need to apply for second or subsequent resident visa?
2. I’m I eligible for second or subsequent resident visa?
3. If I’m granted visa, do I have to stay in NZ until I get ‘Permanent Resident Visa’ OR I can travel outside NZ and return back provided I’m fulfilling 184 days every year clause.
4. My wife and daughter got their resident visa on 30 April 2014 but they stayed in NZ hardly for 3 months after that. Will they be eligible for second or subsequent resident visa after 30 April 2016 while they are outside NZ? (Please note that I was principle applicant when we had filed for resident visa)

I’m not getting clear picture on immigration website and will appreciate inputs from you guys. Thanks.

During the time you were in NZ, were you working? That is, did you have tax resident status?

Yes. I was full time employed while in NZ.

2. Yes, I think so, as long as you don't come from a country with a double taxation agreement with NZ - see the Note in the blue box here. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...quirements.htm
3. RV4.15 b i here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/42633.htm says you would have travel conditions for up to the year after your first resident visa ran out. So you would have right of re-entry for that 12 months, but could not come and go after that till you qualified for PR, UNLESS you applied for a variation of travel conditions, or ANOTHER second or subsequent resident visa, if by then you qualified for it.
