Default Residency for people with one month contract

    Hi there,
Let me tell you guys a little bit about my background.
I came to NZ 10 years ago to study high school then graduated Level 7 major in computer science.
I got a full job in software developement field for about 1 year but it's one month contract rolling
Am I still eligible to apply for residency via EOI?
I mean i got enough points for most of the fields but only employment requirement needed to be permanently
Please help as it's really really important for me

    Thanks a lot
    Robert

I'm sorry - this is going to be disappointing.

No, you won't meet the requirements. Here are the details of the rules. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/30549.htm In general, if someone is on a limited-term contract, even if it is for 12 months, which is what the rules seem to demand as a minimum, INZ want to see that a) short-term contracts are normal for that industry, and b) evidence that there is extremely likely to be more work forthcoming, either from that same employer, or from other employers in the same field showing that they have a lot of work on and are likely to be wanting more staff.

Your present situation is probably not even secure enough to get you a work visa. Do you have contacts in the industry who might be able to introduce you to other employers who would give you a more solid contract, and therefore a basis for a secure life in NZ?

    Hi JanM
    Thanks for the reply
In your reply, you mentioned term extremely likely to be more work forthcoming.
My original contract was 6 months long then they give me one month contracts turned over in 3 months. By now I'm on 2 months contract then it will be renewed again after new year (but I'm not sure how long it will be).
So my point is whether my situation still matches the term of extremely likely to be more work forthcoming if I understand your point correctly ?
By the way I'm currently holding 2 years work visa since April 2015

    Thanks
    Robert

It's not just judged on what has happened - INZ would probably want to see something in writing from your employer about their intentions for you.

So it means something like letter from my employer which says that they do need me?

I have hardly seen anyone on the forum on short term contracts who got residence, so I'm very hesitant about giving any opinion as to what evidence from the employer would be certain to make it work for you. But a statement like you mention would be a step in the right direction.
