MCSE IT Certification with Experience gained in past

Hi All,

I have 10+ experience in IT industry as senior engineer. Will I get absolute skilled shortage area bonus points, if I hold MCSE which was gained in 2008.

I am planning to get this done under 263111 and, ACS has given this equivalent to AQF Diploma.

However, anezco code tells that, under NZ immigration we will gain bonus points for Absolute Skill shortage area if only hold NZQF 7+ degrees. and I am planning to do IQA with in next month. Further, I hold my partner's 20 points.

Any type of response is really helpful.

ACS has no bearing on INZ - different country, different rules.

To be eligible to claim bonus points for your qualification and past work experience, you would have to hold a qualification that was exempt from assessment, or was assessed by NZQA (at IQA) as comparable to one of the Level 7 qualifications listed under the green bar for LTSSL here. http://skillshortages.immigration.go...stems-engineer (That is, you don't have to hold a New Zealand degree - your foreign degree has to be found to be comparable to one of those NZ degrees.)

If you don't have enough points for your EOI to be selected without the bonus points, you can look at trying for a job offer - with a skilled job offer, you can be sponsored by the employer for a work visa to enable you to start, and also put in your EOI, which will be selected with a minimum of 100 points.

Is NZQA Level 7 - Graduate Certificate will be assessed as a degree.

If it's not on the INZ exempt list, you would have to get it assessed to find out. NZQA look at the details of your course - the subject(s) studied, to what depth, and for how long - then they state what Level it is, and also, if there is a NZ degree course currently running to which it is comparable. (Note: in-house or product-based training schemes are not normally recognized.)

Unfortunately MCSE is an industry recognised qualification, but it is not a degree course. Therefore it is very unlikely that as (presumably) you don't hold a degree that you will be able to claim the bonus points. That's the unfortunate fact of life.

Now the good news. People with MCSE will be in demand in NZ as this is currently (now that Microsoft have dropped the MCP qualification) the highest qualification that exists. So you will be in a very strong position if/when you apply for jobs in NZ. You would need to make sure that your MCSE is current and reflects the current technologies in your area of expertise. Contacting some of the local agencies should give you an indication of how in-demand your skills are (depends if you are a DBA / Developer / BI specialist etc ect)
