Hello! Am new to the forum

I graduate from Lincoln university in landscape architect but did it part time in Singapore. Will like to explore opportunities to work and live in New Zealand. Been researching and did check on points system for skilled migrant scheme. Could not get the 140 as requested.

Any advise will be useful.

If you can get the offer of a skilled job in NZ, you will need only a minimum of 100 points for your EOI to be selected at the next draw.

I realized that it will be tough to get a job in New Zealand without physically been there. Also Landscape Architect is not in demand list. Just a few questions to ask:

1. If I manage to get at least 140 point, and manage to secure skill migrant Visa, do I have to physically be in NZ almost immediately?

2. I know that if you chose to work outside Auckland, you get extra point, but not sure if I had chosen that option in the quick check list?

3. Will investing in a properties help?

Will have to keep looking, ask the right question and been at the right place. And hope that one day this dream will come true.

If an application is approved, the applicant has six months to send in their passport to have the visa label stuck in, then a further 12 months after that before they MUST arrive in NZ to have the visa activated. That is, there is almost a year and a half after approval till they have to make the trip. Even then, if they had unfinished business in their home country, they could go back again immediately, once their passport had been stamped at immigration at the airport of arrival, which activates the two years' 'travel conditions' which permit unlimited numbers of re-entries to NZ.

You can always re-do the check, noting what you entered, not just relying on the onscreen total. Actually, rather than using the checker, which can be misleading, it is probably better to look here. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/6954.htm SM6 has a chart of possible points, and the other sections give details for the requirements for claiming the points under each heading.

Did the tabulation last night and came up with 150 points. Not sure though if my pre university qualification qualified for points on top of my BLA.

No, it won't. You only get to count the points for your highest level qualification. So for instance, if someone has a Level 4 trade qualification and a bachelor's degree, he can only claim for the degree (50). If someone has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree, he can only claim for the master's (60).

Good that i have somebody related to my prefession . I am an Architect and a Construction manager by profession . My suggestion is to evaluate your profile with the help of an expert . Construction manager is one of the shortage of skill list currently

Thnak you for your advises.

I assume that you are referring to immigration specialis who help people to secure visa. Planning to consult an immigration specilaist that we had some contact back after the holiday in SG. I spent many years working mainly on installation of landscape projects in landscape architecture firms. I think that will mean project manager for landscape works. Hope to get work on that area.
