Sending Cargo

Hi Everyone

I am in the middle of the process to travel to New Zealand and as such, I wanted to ask everyone here about their experience of sending cargo (containing personal belonging around 30-50 kg) to NZ. So far, we found emirates sky cargo as the best alternative. However we are trying to work out ways on the airline tickets as to pre-purchase excess baggage so that those items travel with us. I understand that any item we will send as cargo, or ship via the local post office service will end up at the custom depot in NZ? What is the procedures about claiming those products? Do I really need a custom broker to clear my personal belongings considering that I have recently been granted a 2 year residence and I am immigrating to NZ.

Please share the means you used and the cost involved in custom clearing those products.
