Default Hi, just a quick question about visa!

    Hey guys

So my partner has been granted 1 year working visa and have been working for 6 months or so, and as our love got deeper haha

we decided to get married which will be this April.

In order for us to get everything ready she will be quitting her job.

So the question is! does she need to apply for different visa? or can she still use that 6 months remaining?

What kind of work visa does she have? If it was granted because of the offer of her job - WTR, or an Essential Skills temporary work visa - then it will become invalid as soon as she leaves work, since it depends on the holder following that particular employment. If it was a partner-sponsored temporary work visa, that is an open visa, which gives permission for the holder to do any work, or none.

This is her case "granted because of the offer of her job - WTR, or an Essential Skills temporary work visa" does that mean she needs to apply for different visa? we been together two years now, what sort of visas can she get? i did look up immgration website and will be heading to the office to ask them but just want to know properly before i go there.

Yes, she needs to get a different visa, before leaving her job, or else she would be illegally in NZ. And someone illegally in NZ cannot apply for a visa. If you have been living together, she can apply for a partner-sponsored temporary work visa. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...milystream.htm If you cannot show evidence that you have been living together (around three months' proof is taken seriously), then that would be a difficult situation - she probably would not be able to get a visitor's visa instead, because those are granted on the assumption that the person is going to leave and go back 'home' to their previous country at the end of a visit, which is obviously not your partner's case. But apart from partner-sponsored visas, or residence in her own right, there aren't visas which would be available to your partner to allow her to live in NZ and not work. In case you are wondering, becoming your wife will not make any difference to this - marriage does not carry any extra weight in applying to INZ.

Don't give up a job just to organise a wedding! It's not that complicated, just like a big party really!
