Default Job seekers visa to Residence visa

    Hello,

My wife has been offered a job in New Zealand as a Pharmacist. We applied for a residence visa. We were informed that we are not immediately eligible as she will need to complete a months registration as a Pharmacist. She has therefore been given a job seekers visa until the registration is complete. We will then be able to complete the residence visa.

Myself and the children will need to apply for visitor/temporary visas until the residence visa can be processed. These visas require return flights to be purchased otherwise entry will be refused.

Will we need to leave the country and re-enter or will they allow us to stay after the months registration?

    Thanks in advance.

No, you won't need to leave. Once you get Residence, that will supersede visitor's visas, so they won't ever run out (which is the point at which you would have been required to leave).

    Thanks for the info.

I assume that we don't need return flights - just onward flights if we wanted to have a trip to say, Australia?

Correct - any country to which you have the right to travel.
