bringing Traditional Dagger to NZ ?

I've read in few Universities websites that it's recommended to bring your traditional costume for celebration events that take place every year in New Zealand so i wanted to know if bringing the Yemeni dagger with me is Ok ?

You could not bring such an item into the country without first having a permit, and I think it rather unlikely that the possibility of a ceremony, when you're not someone official, e.g. a government representative, would be considered as sufficient reason to grant one.

You can bring in such items for cultural reasons even if it is not the main reason you have listed above. Apply for a permit from the police. There are many people who import or bring in weapons for cultural and aesthetic reasons. There are collectors everywhere in NZ.
