    Default work to residency

    guys;

    i just received a 2 year working visa for me and my family. i wanted to ask about applying for residency,
    1) as i understood from couple of friends living there that i can apply for residency faster than 2 years? is that right?
    2) my job as a chef is listed in the long term shortage list, but NZQA assessment was for hotel management will that affect my residency application?
    3) all my past job experience 18+ years is working as a chef and my job offer in NZ also executive chef, will that help?

    thx for any leads

    1. Yes, you have the choice. If you stay with the WTR for two years, you can follow on with the Residence From Work system, which has its own requirements. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...residence-visa Or, if you and your job meet ITS requirements, you can go directly for residence under SMC. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...-resident-visa

    2. You can apply for residence under SMC as a chef as long as you meet the requirements mentioned by INZ and at ANZSCO.
    http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@....OUP+3513+Chefs
    http://skillshortages.immigration.govt.nz/chef/
    Both of those mention that years of experience can subsitute for a specific qualification, so...

    3. ...yes, it probably will help.

    But all the above depends on being able to meet the exact requirements, so read everything carefully. http://onlineservices.immigration.go...anual/6954.htm SM6 has a chart of all the points that can be claimed, and the other sections tell you the detailed regulations for being eligible for those points.

    jandM to the rescue like usual, thx mate...
    one more thing, after i pay taxes on my salary is there anymore deductions i should count for? on my agreement it's written 100,000 per annum less statutory deductions? are those included in the taxes i pay or are they extra? if the latter how much should i deduct?

    maybe a silly question but am 36 years old and never paid taxes in my life, all my contracts are tax free))

    thx again

    A general overview of NZ taxes (most of which probably won't apply to you). https://www.newzealandnow.govt.nz/li.../nz-tax-system

    http://www.ird.govt.nz/payroll-emplo...ons-index.html This one is intended for employers, but it may help you by showing what they HAVE to deduct on the government's behalf.
