    Question NZQA Comparability Assessment

    Dear All,

Today we received our NZQA - IQA results and our qualification (BSc degree), didn't assess as specialization nor generalization. To claim the bonus points we need to have degree with Computer Science or Information Technology specialization.

After referring this forum, I noticed that there is option called NZQA Comparability Assessment. So if someone can provide more information regarding this, it's highly appreciate.

Currently we have below qualification and experience.

    1) A diploma at level 6 (learned Information Technology subjects)
    2) A bachelor degree at level 7 (learned Computer Science, Statistics and Mathematics subjects)
    3) 7 years of working experience as programmer.

    Thanks in advance.

When you put in for your IQA, did you include a form or letter, asking NZQA to check specifically for the comparability you need for the bonus points for your career? If you did, then it is unlikely NZQA will change the outcome of the assessment you have already received.

However, you can write to NZQA and ask if they will look again for comparability with the NZ qualifications listed on the LTSSL list for the ANZSCO code you are hoping to apply under.

'Comparability' means that the foreign qualification has been awarded, following a course of study that is similar in depth, length, and content to a course that is currently running in New Zealand. So if NZQA state that the foreign qualification is NOT comparable, this is no disrespect to the foreign university, and no suggestion that the degree is not of a high level. It simply means that no NZ educational institution at the moment has a course with a similar content. So you will see why, if you asked for the check in the first place, the outcome is not likely to be changed.

There is an option to make a complaint http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/about-us/make-a-complaint/, but this is for if you feel NZQA have not followed proper procedure, not simply if you did not get the answer you hoped for.

    Dear JandM,

    Thanks for your answer.

We consulted Licensed Immigration Adviser for our immigration process and she is the one who submitted documents to NZQA. In the application she asked to combine the qualifications but not sure whether she asked from NZQA to check specifically for the comparability we need for the bonus points. Now we are waiting for NZQA's clarification for our IQA results.
