Default Cant find work and I was an accountant for four years overseas

    Hi everyone,

Recently I have moved to New Zealand to be with my partner and I have been granted an open work visa. I am currently working for a recruitment agency called Kelly's Services doing manual labour work in a warehouse and have been trying to secure any sort of office job as that is what I have done my entire working life in my home country. I am an experienced accountant and have a CV which states I was an accountant for four years and speak three languages and took on many other office duties while doing all of the company's account anting and I feel my CV is put together well. How ever I have applied for so many office based jobs listed on Trademe and some on Seek (about 25-30 all up) and have not had a positive reply yet, just a few rejections and no answers on all of the others.

Is there something I may be doing wrong or can anyone provide some tips or tricks I may not be aware of?

It may have something to do with the government's stipulation that Kiwis take precedence over International workers.
If you type in Accountancy jobs New Zealand on Google there is a number of web sites that specialise in that type of work.

maybe you can check if you can improve your current CV and cover letter?
Also, you might want to ask for advice from agency recruitment as well? and ask for feedback after got rejected...
And make sure that they know your visa type, any restriction and stuffs...
But I think keep on trying.

The issue is overseas experience doesn't hold water in NZ. If you have been working in the USA, the UK, Australia or developed countries, then it may help. But 4 years of experience in India isn't.
If you are from India you can list that you can speak 5-10 languages like Punjabi, Hindi, Gujarati, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali etc and again it doesn't help your CV.
My advice is that you can make your CV in Kiwi style. Choose an English name. Remove irrelevant experience. Don't hint to employers that you're very new to NZ.
Good luck to your job search.

Hi there David12345, I am sorry for your current situation.. Currently having a job to meet end is great.. Of course, that's not the ideal case..

Anyway, just try to go out and meet people.. Network is key.. Get into a community..

    Hope it helps..

Why are you saying that Indian experience doesn't have a value?
