What can I do during processing time for SMC (4-5 month)? Can I work till results are issued or just wait and ask for tourist visa before my WH visa expire? Thank you

You can continue to work during the life of your WHV. If that is going to expire before Residence arrives, then you can lodge an application for a work visa a) to keep you legal while you wait, and b) because IF the work visa isn't going to come through in time, INZ can then issue you an interim visa to cover the gap, which they can't do for a Residence application.
