Default Financial Evidence supporting SMC Residence Application

    Dear All

From reading previous posts and the INZ manual I understand there is a requirement to show $30000 for 24 months as evidence of financial support for an SMC residence application .My questions are as follows:

1.Does the CO literally ask to see the financial evidence anytime during processing OR its a matter of declaration by the applicant during ITA submission stating that they can meet the requirement ?

2.Is anyone on record so far as being declined the residence visa when they have failed to show this financial evidence?Whats the level of strictness that INZ shows?

3.Is the $30000 a fixed minimum amount or INZ are flexible to allow for example($10000,$15000) assuming the applicant will get a job in reasonable time after relocating to NZ? I will be relocating with my wife(no children yet)

    Regards

    Brian

    Hi Brian,

Can you share the link where they have mentioned the minimum amount required to show as proof for SMC application? I recently applied for SMC work to residence visa, but the documents checklist never mentioned anything about proof of funds.

    Thanks.

I was thinking exactly the same. I believe a student has to show that they have the funds to support themself, and maybe that is what you have seen.

    Hi aravindkumarh & JandM

My questions stem from questions asked in these previous posts where I read Karen (1st link) mentioning something along these lines,

    1. http://www.enz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47059
    2. http://www.enz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37484

In other words is there going to be a financial qualification/requirement for the SMC residence process at any stage?I wanted clarification so I prepare ahead of time.

    Thanks again

Okay. I'd forgotten those. So where the matter comes up first is that you have to sign on the ITA to say you understand your obligation to support yourselves, as mentioned in this post. http://www.enz.org/forum/showthread....461#post443461

Karen's comments in this post http://www.enz.org/forum/showthread....975#post517975, about potentially providing evidence of having savings to support the applicant, along with the ITA, were made in a particular situation, where the person had skilled qualifications and work experience but had not worked for six or seven years, so the CO might well be doubtful that she would quickly find a job upon arrival in NZ. Karen was thinking that showing at the very outset that she had some money or assets in her ownership would help her get her Residence.

As other people said on that thread, they hadn't had any queries put to them about their financial situation until the stage of the CO interview, if then. It's not a matter that arises very often, if a person has been working in their skilled career right up to the present.
