    Default 515$ first electric bill

has anyone here had the same problem with electric bills when they just arrived? my first electric bill is 515$ for gods sake!!!!!
i called the electric company twice and their answer is the same: that's your usage for this month
it's only me my wife and 1 baby... yes we have to put a heater in the babies room but night time only, during the day we put it off..

    is that normal here?

Sounds very steep: we never have a bill that big even in winter.

My parents also paid $450 for the month of June. They complained because for 8 years it was the first time they were billed that price. They are with Meridian.

I assume you have the meter readings when from you moved in until the bill was calculated? So you can check if that is correct? If that's your only form of heating, then electric heaters (if on for several hours a day) are very inefficient financially.

That doesn't seems right. I don't know your exact usage, but based on your statement, presumably your electric bill should be around $200.

i have the app from GENESIS and it seems we're spending around 100kw per day is that even possible?
about my heating: stove-oven electric (but rarely used)
    water heating 180 ltr electric
    water kettle
and baby heater like stated before only at night
    of course washing machine...

i just arrived to NZ and honestly no one even prepared me for that, no idea it would be that high.... am still in a shock
friends suggested to change to another company: powershop...or send an investigation request
    any suggestions?

naw, not by what you are saying... think our highest bill has been about 190 a month and that was with a electric water heater like yours. Is there a thermostat on it? Although we've never kept an electric heater on all night - maybe check that out. I think the oil fins with thermostats are meant to be reasonably efficient.

Good luck - sounds a nightmare
