Safe zones in papamoa

Hi all,I move to NZ next month and have a job in papamoa,we are obviously looking at just laying our heads somewhere initially and will find out in due course but maybe someone can help me here? I know I'm probably being really paranoid but,recent tsunami talk has freaked me out! I thought we'd be living in papamoa but any advice on safer areas which are nice(good schools etc) that's an easy commute would be appreciated....

When I had considered Tauranga a few years back, I fount the tsunami risk maps to be helpful. Papamoa seems a bit tougher to get to a safe area then other places since none of the residential areas are in green(safe) zones... Here is a map:

We had been considering Mount Maunganui, which at least had residential streets in the green zone:

Brilliant thanks,that's really helpfull. Have been looking at maps but couldn't find the green areas.

Yeah, that is the problem. In Mount Maunganui (Map 1) you have at least some residential streets in safe zones. But in Papamoa you don't get into safe areas until you enter parks beyond the residential streets. At least you are not that far away from a green zone assuming the warning system works the way it is intended (which should be the case unless a quake hits really nearby.)
