Cheap fights Hamilton to Nelson?

I am trying to book 3 flights round trip (2 kids and 1 adult) to join my hubby on a weekend in Nelson in October but horrendous prices. Tried Grab a seat but wrong dates. Any thoughts on cheaper sources? Thanks,

Are there more flights/better prices departing from Auckland? Would the savings be worth driving up to Auckland airport?

(Or I think there are motels that offer free parking, if you need to drive up the day before.)
