Default "Government turning down the tap on immigration"

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/poli...on-immigration

"Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse made the surprise announcement on Tuesday, with a headline figure that would see 5000 fewer residency permits planned for.

The changes would apply for the next two years and see the Government work to a "planning range" for residence approvals of 85,000 to 95,000 - down from 90,000 to 100,000."

"Demand for entry under the Skilled Migrant and Family Categories was increasing, raising the number of points required for residence from 140 to 160."

Just out of curiosity, if you have ITA and have not lodge my SMC application, and the rules changed, do I follow the new rules and no longer be eligible?

    Edit: Nvm found my answer!

yes, from tomorrow, unless you have 160+ points you will not be selected.

If you already have an ITA you can continue

Amendments have been made to SM2 and SM3.15 to raise the automatic selection mark for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to be drawn from the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Pool to 160 points. Provision SM2(e)(ii) and SM3.15(c)(ii) allowing for selection of EOIs that have total points of more than 100 and less than 140 with points, where the submitter also has employment in New Zealand, have been removed.

Demand for entry under the Skilled Migrant and Family Categories was increasing, raising the number of points required for residence from 140 to 160, Woodhouse said.

"Increasing the points required to gain residence from 140 to 160 will moderate the growth in applications in the Skilled Migrant Category and enable us to lower the overall number of migrants gaining residence.

"Changes to the Family Category, including temporarily closing the Parent Category to new applications, will also reduce the total number of migrants being granted residence.

Clearly they are trying to move people out of Auckland... Now the bonus 30 points for job outside of Auckland become so valuable.

Yeah cuz the housing price in Auckland is ridiculous now... In Wellington there are still a lot of 450-600k houses. The same amount in Auckland will probably get you a house in Papakura or Helensville
Next year will see a lot of students and migrants flocking to Wellington and Christchurch.

    Hi guys,

I have a report from NZQA stating Level 6 with no specific outcome. Can I claim points for that? I'm applying as software developer.
