Default Resident to Permanent Resident Visa

    Hi,

Under the Acceptable evidence of your commitment to living in New Zealand, the item says: " You have spent enough time in New Zealand - You have spent 184 days or more in New Zealand as a resident in each of the 2 years before you apply for permanent residence."

Does this mean that you can apply for a permanent resident visa once you have completed 184 days of the second year, provided that you have the acquired amount of days in the first year as well, without having to wait until you have actually completed two full years of your stay in NZ or of your period as a holder of the resident visa? And what is the starting point of measurement of the two years: the date of reciving the visa or the date of entrance in NZ?

    Thank you very much.
    Kind regards,

    AAND

No, because BEFORE you arrive at mention of the criteria for showing commitment to NZ, there is this requirement.
Upon application principal applicants, except for those to whom RV2.10 applies, will be granted a permanent resident visa if:

    they either:
hold a resident visa, and have held that resident visa continuously for at least 24 months at the time of application
The two years are measured from the date of activation of the visa, by presenting it to Immigration at the airport upon arrival in NZ.
