How hard is it for an Aussie to get work in NZ?

Hi, I am an Australian citizen currently living in Melbourne. I work in IT (level 2 support) and i'm finding the IT market here is very tough at the moment. I have a job already (which I don't really enjoy), but find it almost impossible to get another job, even when I currently have one! I suspect this difficulty is most likely due to the influx of skilled migrant workers moving to Melbourne lately, many of which are doing IT (especially Indians).

I just read a few articles about NZ now having a shortage of people in IT, and many IT jobs are now on the skills shortage list!

What are my chances of getting work in NZ while i'm still in Australia? Obviously I have full rights to live and work in NZ as i'm an Australian Citizen.

Any Aussies here that have moved to NZ? Did you manage to get work while you were still living in Australia? I'm assuming they would do interviews over Skype?

I think a lot of agencies work across the tasman
eg I was talking to the boss of one agency in Queensland about a job in Canterbury. (I was in Canterbury)
So maybe look specialist agencies, they should know the job market as well. Linkedin can be quite useful.
