Will Australian overstay ban affect visa for new zealand

Would a re entry ban to Australia affect applying for a visa for New Zealand. Without going into detail a stupid but genuine mistake was made by our UK friend which led to having a 3 year re entry ban to Australia. As our family, originally from the UK, but are Australian citizens and wanting to move to New Zealand. We weren't worried about his 3 year ban as we thought were going to be in New Zealand hopefully early next year. Now I'm thinking will this affect his application for a working visa for New Zealand?
