I asked:

1. Can I and my wife enter NZ using our visitor’s visa purely for holiday before our case has been decided? Shall we be refused to enter because we have applied for Residence, with the case not yet having been decided? If both of us have no job at that moment, and hope to stay in NZ for more than 2 months, but with return tickets, shall our behavior be interpreted as we are trying to pre-empt the decision and possibly stay illegally, and then have negative effect on our case?

2. If our purpose is to go to NZ for job hunting using our visitor's visa, is it illegal? Shall we be refused to enter?

They answered:

Visitors are considered to be coming to New Zealand for a lawful purpose if:
a.they are coming for such purposes as:
holidaying;
sightseeing;
family and social visits;
amateur sport;
business consultation
medical treatment; or
guest of government visits (guest of government status is granted by the Visits and Ceremonial Office, Department of Internal Affairs).
b. they are not intending to undertake employment.

If you believe you meet the 'lawful purpose' test as detailed above, you and your wife are welcome to visit New Zealand.
