Default Open Water Swimming in Auckland

Is there anywhere I can find information about and meet people interested in open water swimming in Auckland?

Here in the UK there are large numbers of local facebook groups which are very active. I can't yet find such a group in NZ. I presume that they do exist, but my search fu is failing me.

I'm posting here because this very interesting thread is here: http://www.enz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30784

I wouldn't mind swimming in Lake Pupuke. However, I don't swim alone except in exceptionally safe circumstances. So, I need to find people to swim with.

Thanks for the information. I've looked at those sites, and none of the events are on when I'm in Auckland. A pity as I definitely would have done the Rangitoto --> mainland swim if possible.

If possible, what I'd really like is to get in contact with people who do swimming, so that something ad hoc can be set up with individuals. This happens an awful lot in the UK, and hence I assumed I'd be able to find similar groups in NZ. So far, nothing doing.

E.g. this is a lake near to me. A small lake, with 170 members in its facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1531299943783287/ Go about 2km up the road to the next lake, and there is a page not a group but it's very active: https://www.facebook.com/Stanton-Lak...67732/?fref=ts I was hoping to find something similar for Pupuke, or at least an Auckland Open Water Swimming group similar to the UK's Midland Inland Swimmers with 851 members: https://www.facebook.com/groups/199721620164619/

With that number of members, it's possible to post "anyone up for a meetup @ <lake> on Sunday Morning" and invariably someone is. Is there nothing similar in Auckland?

Thanks very much for this. I've joined the group and also joined a facebook group advertised in the meetup discussion. Hopefully I'll be able to sort something out. Otherwise I've found a boxing day swim from Rangitoto back to Takapuna on the meetup group.
