    Default Overseas NZ Immigration Branch

    Hello,

Does anyone know how long it takes for overseas NZ immigration offices/branches to hear back from NZ re: medical? Especially if it has been referred to M.A. lodged Oct 2016 @ overseas NZ Immigration office/branch who advised they are waiting on NZ to reply re: medical.

This is variable, depending on the volume of medicals that have been referred to the MAs just before yours. The time lag is mostly spent by your file waiting in a queue for an MA's attention. It had been running at 4 - 5 weeks, but just recently seems to have risen again.

It can be a week or two or longer. Depends on the queue, your relevant medical condition(s), and whether your application is connected to a job offer. Mine took about two weeks back in 2012: I included a specialist letter explaining my condition and its treatment, hoping that would expedite the process. I also had a job offer. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your quick responses & information JandM & jawnbc, much appreciated. I just rang NZ Auckland immigration & they said medical referred to M.A. @ Nov 1, 2016 & it takes about 30 days for M.A. to touch so they said hopefully tomorrow or next Monday it will be checked but they're not too sure.

All specialist/surgeon letters accompanied medical forms.

Not sure how strict immigration are re: heart valve repairs (Work Visa under partnership lived together less then 12 months) - Surgery was done in Auckland afew months ago.

I've read many medical conditions stories on this forum but not much re: heart conditions

For many conditions, much depends on what the medical people say about the patient's condition and prognosis. It's all down to what they are forecast to be likely to cost the NZ health service in the near future, or lifelong if it's going to be an ongoing programme of care/treatment.

    Absolutely right JandM

The only medication I'm on is aspirin for 6 x months. Specialist could only say "unlikely to need any operation for 10 years" all other medical tests were fine.

Not sure how the M.A. will take that? Wonder if the M.A. will be willing to accept it under the Temporary work visa with a condition that medicals will need to be updated for any future visa applications. Or if it will just be declined mmm....

The MAs rely entirely on what the doctors and specialists who care for you state - they don't have some mysterious *other* source of diagnosis!

You can see all the regulations here. http://onlineservices.immigration.go...nual/35154.htm A4.10.1 will be of particular interest.
