Default Recommended kids' movies/tv to get them used to accents?

We likely won't be in NZ for close to another year, and I'd like to get the kids used to Kiwi culture and accents, especially since "people talking funny" is one of my 8 year old's top immigration concerns :-P

We've watched Whale Rider of course, but is there anything else I might be able to YouTube for them?

I remember my daughter enjoying Kaitangata Twitch around that age.

You can get some episodes from Sticky TV on youtube, that is an after school daily programme. Also there is What Now? which airs weekly. https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...w+new+zealand+

Are you coming from California? This won't be a problem for your kids. Young Kiwis are growing up on American television and movies. In addition to speaking much clearer than their parents, they're also very used to hearing US accents. Men of a certain age, on the other hand, are impossible to understand.

But to answer your question, how about Moana? Her whole family is Maori.

Oh yes, we were so lucky that Moana came out just weeks after we told them the news!

I'm sure the kiwi kids won't have trouble understanding a California accent, it could be tougher for my kids to understand what the heck people are saying...hence the cartoon training for a start lol!

Thanks everyone for the great leads, that will keep us busy for a little bit

I wouldn't worry too much at all, it's the same language after all and children can be much more flexible with languages, much more so than adults.

You're right :-) I'm not worried about it, but hoping to set my kids minds more at ease when it's hard for them to envision what NZ will be like. We want to move within a year, while they're still so young and adaptable, hopefully they'll make a little cohort of friends before the joy of puberty hits, haha

    I recently watched this:

    Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

    Julian Dennison is very adorable.
