Lightbulb NZQA IQA respects to Education Credential Evaluators?

    Dear Forum,

I recently submitted my NZQA IQA assessment application to NZQA. They received my application on the 25th of October and are still with it, I called them a few times and now they said that my application is at the front of the queue, however, due to the Christmas and New Year holidays I will have to wait till the New Year for it to finally have an allocation.

My qualification is from a Private University in Dhaka Bangladesh, and its a Bachelors in English and a Masters in English Language Teaching.

Apart from submitting my original certificates (verified by my country's foreign ministry and education ministry with their seals on them), I also submitted a full "course by course" evaluation by Education Credential Evaluations (ECE) which is highly respected in NZ.

Some of the kind of recognition that ECE (https://www.ece.org) enjoys in NZ are given institutions such as:

    The University of Otago: http://www.otago.ac.nz/international/otago005425.html

    Massey University: http://www.massey.ac.nz/massey/fms/C...tudentship.pdf

    Victoria University: http://www.victoria.ac.nz/study/stud...ailCode=600368

NZ International Doctoral Research Scholarships: http://www.mladiinfo.eu/wp-content/u...S-FAQ-2013.pdf

Also, every other University in NZ accepts their evaluation as the final assessment for admission and scholarship purposes.

ECE evaluated my academic papers as Bachelor in English and "Masters in English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages", it also acknowledged the national accreditation status of my University and calculated by grades as per US standards.

I submitted by original ECE report along with all my certificates and transcripts to NZQA. I also took a print out of the local accreditation body of my country where my university name and address is mentioned and submitted it to NZQA (although its just a print out).

Thus, the originals I submitted are:

    1. Bachelor and Master certificates and transcripts (with verification seal by Bangladesh Ministry of Edu and Foreign Min)
    2. ECE original "course by course" evaluation report.
    3. A printout (which I acknowledge is nothing significant as its just a printout)

    PLUS

I had a "missing documents" query from NZQA asking me whether I need a teacher's registration as my qualifications are of education/teaching. I said that at the moment I am not looking for a teaching employment, but rather just need a NZ equivalent level for my qualifications.

I only need it for points as I will be applying for SMC as an experienced Chef with some formal training and 5 years of experience with more than 1 year in NZ.

    Kindly comment:

How will NZQA view these documents? Will it make it easier for them to evaluate my papers faster without further loss of time to process greater investigation due to the ECE documents (which can be investigated very easily as ECE is much more responsive compared to my University or national accreditation body - which is a government body)?

There is nobody here on the forum with direct connections to NZQA who can tell you what the outcome will be. NZQA's criteria for assessment are not made public in the way that INZ's are.

    Hi,

Just thought I should update my NZQA result.

I received a Level 8 for my Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language. I received it after approximately 3 months of waiting. The title of the qualification is the same as given to be by ECE, however the level is not 9.

It doesn't matter because I will get my required points, and I am applying as a Chef due to my chef experience, however the points from a recognised qualification is always welcome.

I think the ECE helped my file a lot, as also told by their business support person with whom I has a talk while investigating the status of my application. After allocation it took 3 days to get my file from evaluation to sign off.
