    Default Information about Permanent Residence

    Hi,

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before or you get bored of questions like these, but I'd appreciate some insights now that I am on my way to become a permanent resident in NZ. What are my rights, entitlements and expectations of me as a PR and also what are the things that are limited to citizens only (other than some government jobs and the passport)?

I am a refugee, therefore, I may apply for a PR. I come from a third world country where we hardly focus on taxes and things like citizens/residents of first world countries usually do. As soon as I gain the visa as far as I know I become a tax resident. I want to know what are the laws here and what is it expected of me now that I'm a PR. I would like to do right by NZ, after all that's the least I could do. I'd love it if you could direct me to a website or outline the general rules/requirements to maintain my PR status and ties to NZ . Thanks

I don't think I've ever seen any list of specific instructions I can bring to your attention. There is a brief mention here http://www.compassimmigration.com/se...nd-citizenship, about residence and then citizenship, so that gives you an idea of citizenship privileges. I think the duties come down to living according to the law. If in doubt about what is legal on any particular matter, use Google (enter NZ law on tenancy, or whatever your concern is), and you will normally find hits from government departments setting out the situation and saying where you can get more advice, or use the Citizens' Advice Bureau, which gives free assistance. http://www.cab.org.nz/Pages/home.aspx Everything to do with tax is dealt with by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), and here is their website. https://www.ird.govt.nz/
