    Default Visa

    Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has been in the same position as we are.

We got a job offer, as doctors we need to apply for what is equivalent to GMC (General Medical Council) license in order to practise medicine in NZ. Once we get the license, only then we can apply for visa. Anyone knows how long the process takes?

Kinda hard to prep ahead if we don't really know.... when do we submit in resignation to our current jobs etc....

    Thanks
    PG

there's probabaly a lot of variables in that depending on where/when you gained qualifications and experience. Just talk to them.

    this from their site www.mcnz.org.nz

How long will it take to get registered?

Timeframe for the application for registration process is dependent on many factors:

    Is the application form complete?

Do we have all the necessary accompanying documentation: such as references, certificates of good standing, qualification and examination results? This is important as we cannot consider your application until we have all the information.

Which registration pathway are you taking? Some pathways, for instance the Vocational pathway for specialist doctors take much longer and involve many more steps to registration.

Excluding the vocational registrations for doctors from overseas, we aim to process applications within 20 working days.

We can only begin processing your application after we have:

    received payment
    received a complete application
and all accompanying documentation is attached
Use the registration self assessment tool to determine your appropriate registration pathway. Alternatively, refer to the registration pathways diagram.

    Thanks.

Consultant Ophthalmologist trained in the UK, UK citizen. Have all the documentation and necessary forms filled. We were told that NZ's GMC equivalent is going to call the referees for verification etc. Employment agency said we should tender in resignation after the practise license is approved. Other forum suggested that we should wait until the visa is approved before resigning. That just mean 3 months after the visa is approved as that is the notification period consultants here are required to give. The hospital indicated that they want us to start asap.

beware also, that visa when issued might have a "first entry date (before 3 months)"
