Default Important question about transitioning from work visa to PR

I am applying for a work visa (I have a job offer) to NZ. I hope to arrive in June of 2017. Do I have to wait two years before I apply for PR or can I do it immediately. Also, I turn 56 in two years. If I work for two years and then apply for PR I would only have one month before turning 56. Is that a problem?

If you meet the criteria, you can apply now under Skilled Migrant, for Residence. You need to be under the age of 56 at the time your residence application (not your EOI) is lodged.
PR (Permanent Residence) comes once you have been a resident for 2 years and meet the criteria there ( no age limit)

    Hi Chris,

I am also in similar condition as Neal but not about age. I got a job offer and applying for essential skill worker visa. Can I apply for Residence soon? or do I have to wait for two years? My occupation is University Tutor.

    regards,
    Ash Bin

No, you don't have to wait. You can apply as soon as you meet the requirements.
