Default Visa for husband wanting to study...

I'm a NZ born citizen currently living in London with my husband and our son. We'd love to move back within the next year and my husband is thinking of training to be a teacher. We've been living together for around 7 years, what visa should he apply for? And how long until he wouldn't have to pay international student fees? Am trying to decide whether it is worth taking an extra year in the UK for him to retrain or do it back in NZ. Thanks!

Have a look and see if a Partnership Visa would work for you: https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...on/partnership

From a page on the same site:

    • If your partner is a New Zealand citizen and the two of you have been living together outside of New Zealand for 5 years or more, you may be eligible for a permanent resident visa. Your partner will need to be either overseas when you apply, or have been back in New Zealand for less than 3 months.

This is the partner-sponsored residence visa, in detail. See the button at the bottom of the page for the criteria and evidence you would need. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...-resident-visa

Once he is a Resident (and he may well be granted permanent residence straight away because of the length of time you've been together), he would be able to pay domestic rate fees for his studies, but he wouldn't be eligible for any NZ government student loan until he has been a resident for three years. https://www.studylink.govt.nz/produc...ndex.html#null
