AU transit visa requirements even though am not getting out of the plane ?
we are flying from Singapore to Wellington via Canberra where the flight halts in Canberra for refuelling for an hour+. Do we still need a transit visa for indian passport holders ?
Earlier i had flown via Sydney/Melbourne where we had to get out of the plane and board another connecting flight and in this case we did apply for transit visa. I spoke to the airline and they asked me to contact the embassy for AU.
anyone flown via this route in the recent past as this is a new airline route started since Sep 2016.

as per http://www.vfsglobal.com/Australia/India/transit.html
Who should apply?
This visa is for:
people who wish to transit through Australia and who do not qualify for transit without a visa or
people travelling to Australia to join a vessel as crew
A transit visa is required even if:
you fly out on the same aircraft and from the same airport at which you arrived
you stay in the transit lounge and do not leave the airport
