Default Chef Job Available on South Island

I can hardly believe that it is seven-and-a-half years since we arrived in New Zealand! In that time, we have taken the business that we bought here, a somewhat run-down luxury lodge that was sorely in need of a bit of TLC, and turned it into a sought-out destination that has been growing steadily year to year. While it took us about three years to be "discovered" by the travel trade, and five years to finish doing all the repairs that the place required, in years six and seven we began to undertake some expansion works that have seen our lodge take on a new life and become a thriving business with an enviable reputation throughout the country and beyond. (We were even featured on a television programme this past year.)

We now have an opening for a trained chef to join our team. For the past three years we have had a very capable young Kiwi chef working with us, but she has taken up a position elsewhere, giving us an opportunity to take on a more seasoned staff member who, we expect, will enable us to expand even further, and give this new person a chance not only to take up residence in a thriving community, but also to grow into a role that could afford tremendous opportunities for advancement.

The town where we are located has been one of the fastest growing international tourist destinations in NZ for the past several years (at least to some degree due to our tireless efforts to raise our town's profile through annual marketing trips to Europe, North America and Asia), and is an excellent place to raise a family. We have excellent schools, incredibly affordable and high-quality housing, and we're right on the Pacific Coast.

Our lodge is known as a gourmet lodge, and we have often heard from our guests that the meals they have had with us were the best they have had in New Zealand, and even beyond. We grow most of the food we serve on the property, making us an exemplar of the farm-to-table movement. We make just about everything we serve on-site, too, from the jams and baked goods we serve at breakfast, to many of the cheeses, sausages and other products that we serve at dinner. While not all our guests dine in, a growing proportion do, and we even have locals book dinners here for a special occasion. If we find the right person, we would like to expand our local dining service to allow us to be able to bring more diners in.

If you think you are the right person for a position like this, and are looking for a challenge and an opportunity to work as part of a dynamic team, get in touch with us. We are fun to work with (if I do say so myself) and most of our guests are a pleasure to serve!
