For anyone that stumbles on this thread, based on another post somewhere we contacted a company called Pet Relocation (https://www.petrelocation.com) about moving our two dogs from the U.S. west coast recently. The estimate was US$6,600 not including the required 10 days quarantine boarding fees. We can't vouch for their services but their email responses to our various questions were very good. Here is their outline:

Thank you for your email! I would be happy to provide a quote for our services.

We specialize in the complete door-to-quarantine service and manage every aspect of the move to New Zealand. This service includes:

    • Move timeline creation for your dog’s Move
    • Complete management of every step in the import process
    • Working directly with your vet to ensure all work, treatments, and documentation is done correctly and timely
    • Obtain necessary import permit
    • Obtain Endorsed OVD
    • Assistance with quarantine booking
    • Pickup from current residence/boarding facility
    • Delivery to a pet safe airport
    • Domestic flight booking and air freight for a flight to SFO or LAX (with check-in)
    • Pickup from airport and delivery to nearby boarding facility (1 night of boarding)
    • Final vet visit and health check
    • USDA Endorsement from the government vet in port city
    • Vet certificate A and B
    • Final Internal and External parasite treatments
    • Heartworm treatment
    • Delivery to the airport
    • Check-in w/ USDA crate sealing
    • International air freight and flight booking
    • Client Care Specialist on call that is personally assigned to your move that will set in place all plans and manage the move

For our services, we are looking at an estimate of $6,600 USD for the move to Auckland.

This does not include the cost of quarantine or destination services. I'd recommend reaching out to a local quarantine facility such as Pet Haven or QPS to facilitate destination services.
FWIW that's pretty close to what we paid to ship two cats from the U.S. to NZ when we first emigrated years ago. We used Qualified Pet Services (QPS - http://www.qualifiedpet.co.nz) just outside of Auckland back then. (When quarantine was 30 days! ) They were terrific.

    Hope that helps!

    Cheers,

    Rich

We have been in touch with three different pet importers and so far JetPets seem to be the most reasonable and responsive ones. Haven't decided yet, but we're close to putting down a deposit with them.

Sounds good. I believe there are others on the forum that have used JetPets (Pet Express in the U.S.) as well. Did they give you an estimate? Curious to know how much they charge and what their services are.

    Keep us posted!

    Cheers,

    Just a quick follow-up.

We receive another estimate for shipping our two pups from the U.S. west coast to Auckland from Worldwide Pet Transport (the company we used when we first emigrated): US$7K which is a little more than PetRelocation's estimate of US$6,600.

We're waiting on one more from Pet-Express.

If anyone has feedback on any of these companies or others, please take a moment to post your experience. I know it would be very valuable to us and those that follow!

@richsadams, JetPets quoted us $2,600 (from Los Angeles to Auckland, just the flight and paperwork, no quarantine). We ended up going with them.

Thanks for that, but now I'm confused. When we contacted JetPets (based in AU) they referred us to their partner/operations in the U.S. which they said is Pet-Express.

Here are the quotes from each of the three companies we've contacted for shipping our two pups from PDX to AKL (via LAX) so far:

This is the quote we received for quarantine alone (at the facility that took care of our cats when we first emigrated; terrific people):

So even adding quarantine onto the estimates from Pet Relocation and Worldwide Pet Transport, Pet-Express was the most expensive by far.

All were very responsive to our requests and fully answered any questions we asked. Pet Express sent along photos of their facilities near LAX where our dogs would need to stay overnight and they looked very nice. Guess for that price they should.

I can't recall, are you shipping a dog or cat? Whatever, it may be it sounds like JetPets is certainly priced lower than the rest by quite a bit.

Maybe someone at JetPets gave us some bad information so I'll get in touch with them once more.

Cheers for that and I'll post the results!

Just a quick update to my previous post. We just heard back from JetPets and they referred us to Pet-Express again. So it looks like we've come full circle. It's Pet-Express for folks in the U.S.

We're still not sure who we'll use. Pet-Express had the highest quote so we'll probably go with one of the others.

    Still welcome anyone's thoughts!

We are shipping a small dog, so that may have helped with getting a lower price. Check out jetpets.com rather than jetpets.com.au. JetPets.com are a US company, based out of LAX. JetPets.com.au seem to be a different, Australian company. They actually don’t seem to be related, judging by the logos.

Ahhh...thank you for the clarification. JetPets in Los Angeles is indeed a different company. Phew!

I've submitted an enquiry so we'll see how it goes.

    Thanks so much!

Did anybody ever try to do the relocation themselves??
I mean other than pulling the permit from NZ I am not sure what is going with pet exporter company to charge so much?
