Partner of a New Zealander Work Visa Extension

Hi there,

Myself and my partner are wanting come to New Zealand and are looking at applying for a Partner of a New Zealander Work Visa as I am a N.Z. citizen and my partner is English. We have been living together for 4 years so my partner would be eligible for a 2 year visa.

Does anyone know if the visa can be renewed after 2 years?(say for another 2 years), or is it the case we would have to apply for a permanent residency visa for my partner if we decided to stay longer than 2 years.

It is possible to get more than one partner-sponsored temporary work visa in a row.

Whatever the regulations say about the length of the visa your partner may be eligible for, in practice it doesn't necessarily always happen - she could just be issued a visa for a year, either in the first instance or as a follow-on.

The regulations say 'up to 2 years.' Would you have any idea what a typical or most likely scenario is regarding visa length, or is it very much a random case by case thing?

Also, would you have any idea what factors would prevent a visa from being renewed?
