Where to live around Wellington?

Hi all, my husband and I have decided to make the move to Wellington from Australia, we are looking for some suggestions on places to move to, outside of Wellington, we work from home so it's not essential for us to be right near the city, all we need is fast internet, so we would be much happier being about 30-40 mins out of the city where we will have more space and be able to rent a house with a yard rather than a flat. We have a 1 year old so we are looking for a nice safe family friendly area. Would really appreciate any suggestion or advice. Thanks a lot.

You could look at Tawa (just avoid the northernmost part of Linden) where rentals are a bit cheaper presumably enabling you to rent with a yard. It is only 15 minutes from Wellington city by train, maybe 20 minutes by road. Pretty child friendly - parks, cycle tracks, shopping area with library, Titahi Bay beach and Whitireia park only 15-20 minutes drive away. Lots of primary schools, toy hire etc.

Others will probably recommend the Kapiti coast, especially with the new expressway.
