Default NZ Healthcare Card for Permanent Residents

    Hi There

I am a Permanent Visa holder

I am applying for an Australian visa and my Migration agent is asking me for my NZ healthcare card
I don't have one and whenever I have needed to see a doctor , I have shown the PR sticker on my passport as proof of residency

Any idea if I am eligible to apply for the same as my salary is nearly 100k?

    Thanks for advising

By "healthcare card" do you mean, Community Services Card?

    No, not eligible.

I can't see what difference having or not having a Community Services Card would make, just tell the agent you don't have one.

Not sure, but don't Australians have a medicare card or something along those lines? Maybe that's what the agent is referring to, for whatever reasons?

    Hi there

    Thanks for advising
Migration agent exact question was :

"Can you please also provide me with a copy of your New Zealand healthcare card? As a New Zealand permanent resident you can access Medicare on arrival in Australia under the reciprocal arrangements. "

Any idea if the NZ health card is a must for accessing Medicare in Australia by NZ PR holders ?

Have informed the Agent that I dont have the card and asked the agent to clarify my eligibility to Medicare as such but has not replied as yet

Have posted on AUS Immigration forum also, but no response as yet

    Thanks for advising

It sounds like they're asking for your NHI (National Health Index) number. You should be able to check with any dr or clinic you're ever visited and they'll have your NHI on file.
