    Default Applying for Permanent Residency

    Hey everyone,

I just want to know what docs does usually case officer ask when applying for Permanent Residency from resident visa. Will you still need IRD?

I have heard you will also need a ministry of justice check making sure you got no criminal records here in NZ?

    Thank you.

What evidence you will need partly depends on which criterion for 'commitment to New Zealand' you use. See the details here. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...-resident-visa But besides that, you still have to show good character, the same as for Residence. Click on 'Evidence' at the right, and you will see details of what INZ will want from you.

In the simplest of cases, you won't need either. INZ have access to your travel history and your police record, so just your passport should suffice. When are you planning on applying?

If someone was an NZ tax resident for 2 years before getting their resident VISA, would that person still need to wait for 2 more years after residency to get the PR?

Yes. See here. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...-resident-visa It starts off by saying, 'If you’ve been a resident visa holder for 2 years or more...' so that is one of the basic requirements. The variation comes in which way someone chooses to prove commitment to NZ.
